Curator and cultural visionary Yuji Akimoto brings a thoughtful and farsighted perspective to the presentation of contemporary art, emphasizing interaction between art institutions and the local community. He currently serves as director and professor of The University Arts Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts and chief executive director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
From 2007 – March 2017 he served as director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. Previously, during his tenure with the Benesse Corporation from 1991 to 2004 he was the chief curator of Benesse Art Site Naoshima (1992-2004), director of the Chichu Art Museum, managing director of Naoshima Fukutake Art Museum Foundation and the artistic director of the Benesse Art Site Naoshima (2004-2006).
